Q’ESWACHAKA BRIDGE
During the time of the Incas, a vast network of roads existed, with the most important one being the Qhapaq Ñan. These roads connected the territories of the Inca Empire, and to overcome the rugged Andean geography, suspension bridges made from plant fibers were constructed. This intricate technology has been passed down from generation to generation, and today, there is only one remaining Inca suspension bridge that has been renewed annually for over 500 years, bridging the past with the future.
Located 3,700 meters above sea level over the Apurímac River, you will find Q’eswachaka, the last Inca suspension bridge. Each year, more than 1,000 people from four local communities gather to restore its structure, following an ancestral ritual that has been recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2013.
Crossing the Q’eswachaka Bridge is like stepping back in time.
Our one-day tour in Cusco begins with hotel pickup between 4:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., followed by a journey to the South Valley of Cusco, passing through traditional villages along the way.
Then, we will continue with a stop at the Mini Volcano of Los Pabellones and pass through Yanaoca, one of the eight districts of the Canas Province, which is also one of Cusco’s tourist attractions. Afterward, we will continue our journey to Q’eswachaka for approximately one more hour until we reach the Q’ewe district, home to the famous Inca Bridge of Q’eswachaka. This remarkable structure, made from woven plant fibers, spans 28.67 meters in length and is situated at an altitude of 3,600 meters above sea level. From here, we will descend a series of zigzagging paths leading to the Apurímac River valley, where the ancient bridge will slowly come into view.
We will have plenty of time to explore this historical wonder of Cusco, as well as part of the Apurímac Canyon. After visiting the Inca Bridge, we will head to Mosoc Llaqta, where the house of Túpac Amaru II is located. Following a guided tour of this important historical site, we will continue toward the Four Lagoons Circuit, which includes Pampamarca, Asnacqocha, Acopia, and Pomacanchi.
After this, we will drive for another 15 minutes until we reach Cusipata.
Our one-day tour in Cusco concludes with a scenic private transport journey back to the city of Cusco, where we will arrive at approximately 4:00 p.m..
