Palcoyo Mountain is a breathtaking wonder of nature, a stunning trio of vibrant-colored peaks painted in shades of green, red, blue, white, and yellow—reminiscent of the famous Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca).
Unlike Vinicunca, which towers at 5,200 meters above sea level, Palcoyo sits at 4,900 meters and offers a much more accessible and less demanding adventure. With a smooth, one-hour hike and no steep inclines, it’s the perfect alternative for those who want to soak in the mesmerizing Andean landscapes without the challenge of a strenuous trek. A true hidden gem waiting to be explored!
The distance by car from Cusco to the starting point of the Palcoyo hike is 76 miles (125 km), with a travel time of approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes per trip, including a breakfast stop. The hike begins at an altitude of 15,400 feet (4,700 m.a.s.l.).
Trail to the Stone Forest: A zigzagging path of about 200 meters, taking approximately 20 minutes to hike.
The hike to the final viewpoint, with a few rest stops along the way, takes about 45 minutes, while the return to the bus station takes 30 minutes.
